On Sunday March 9th we celebrated our annual Wrag Barn Captain’s Drive in with 134 competitors who gathered for an 8am shotgun start. The event was played in a stableford format with teams of four and two scores counted on each hole except on all the par 3s where all four scores had to count. There were nearest the pin prizes on all the par 3s which were won by: Dave Walls, Mark Whitby, David Knell and Ian Smith.
The ‘drive in’ followed on after the golf and Lady Captain, Sue Britton, Junior Captain, Jake Kavanagh and Seniors Captain, Tony Gunby all teed off without incident and were probably very relieved that the initiation was over. Club Captain Mark Walker was busily placing his tee when the President, Steve Griffiths called him and the Vice-Captain Andy Bright over to toast the event with a glass of port (our President is well know for his love of port and never gets presents of anything else) There were prizes for everyone who guessed the closest spot to the place where each Captain’s drive would land and once it was over we all retired into the club house for lunch, prize giving and a raffle.
Mark made a speech endorsing his anticipation of the good times ahead and thanked everyone who helped plan and facilitate the day, with special presents for Ben, last years Captain Shaun Judd and most important of all his wife Karen and daughter Sophie who will be a huge support during the year ahead.
Lastly the winning teams were presented with their prizes:
Rob Weller, Nick Dunn, Simon Perry and Ted Perry 106
Ashok Ladva, Akshay Patel, Dinesh Gohil and Richard O’Grady 101
Liam Wellsteed, Ryan Wellsteed, David Scott and Tom Newberry 99
We had a wonderful day made even better by the glorious sunshine; special thanks to Tracey for sending it all the way from Dubai. A sincere thank you to everyone involved in the planning and running of this successful event. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead.
