As Cyndi Lauper sang; ‘Girls just wanna have fun’ and thanks to our Lady Captain Suzanne Hunt we had a huge amount of fun during her Lady Captain’s Day.
The theme was black and white and visitors may have been bemused to find people dressed up as jokers, maids, a mad hatter or a model from the Mary Quant catwalk. The instructions for our 18 holes of golf needed some concentration as there were rainbow holes, spin the wheel to see which club to use, putting with airflow practice balls and the option to pay someone to take your drive (with variable success) – not forgetting putting, standing on one leg.
The sun shone, the prosecco flowed and as always there were some wonderful prizes. The winning team of Jan Young, Anne Gardiner and Karen Walker were a few points clear of the runners up, Hope Jack, Verity Manners and Sophie Sayer. There were prizes for nearest the pin and the straightest drive, with a special mention for the best costume. Anyone who lost a ball in the water received a replacement and everyone went home full of good cheer and laughter.
Thank you Suzanne for a wonderful day and to your team of volunteers who dressed up and supported by running the putting competition, acting as marshal or taking drives.
