Wrag Barn Golf Club

Wrag Barn Captains Drive In

The Captains' Drive In is always a popular competition and this year a full complement of golfers from all the sections assembled in the newly refurbished clubhouse ready for an 8 am shotgun start.

Our new Captains for 2023 are Club Captain: Ash Green, Ladies Captain: Suzanne Hunt, Seniors Captain: Jack Arkley and Junior Captain: Ollie Webb.

Teams of 4 played their own ball and out of each team, 2 scores counted on holes 1-6, 3 on holes 7-12 and all 4 on 13-18. There were also prizes for nearest the pin on all the par 3s.

After the main competition, there followed the nerve-wracking prospect of hitting a drive off the 1st tee in front of a large audience, but everyone hit a great drive and a prize was given to the person whose peg was close by.

The winning team was: Ian Young, Ivor Whinney, Tim Manners (much to his surprise) and Andy Bright.

Second place was won by the team of Vice Captains: Louis McDiarmid, Shaun Judd, Carolyn Murphy, David Brownsell

In the afternoon the Juniors had their own drive in competition playing 9 holes on the back 9.

Thank you to the team who organised the day, the staff for looking after us and Club Captain Ash Green for giving us delicious sausage rolls at the halfway house.
