Life After Super Saturday

Not everyone will relate to this; but to me, life since March has been like living in a reality board game.  The board is a calendar and the player progresses from one day to the next turning over cards which issue a set of instructions that the player has to adhere to according to their personal circumstances and how they’re feeling. If someone had invented this board game, nobody would want to play it, but it has made me really appreciate what I have and for England the weather has been pretty amazing so far this summer.

We’ve been very lucky our golf card has enabled us to open up early and it’s been wonderful to see so many people ‘getting out there’ – Ian Ridsdale reports that Tim and I have lots of new best friends who aren’t members but are convinced that we’d like them to book a tee time and play golf................

Last week was ‘Super Saturday’ and credit to the F&B team and Chris Woolley for preparing the Spike Bar so that our members and their guests can enjoy a drink before and after their golf.

We have cut back the Spike Bar menu to ‘grab and go’ food and are looking at sourcing local good quality produce – as a starter we are selling the ‘bloody lovely’ sausages from Andrews the butchers in Highworth.

Chris my eldest (and Tim’s) and Ben are working to put together a new menu with the aim of launching it in time for Rishi Sunak’s  Eat Out to Help Out  scheme – some hoops to jump through for this but it’s a perfect time for something new.

We are monitoring our opening hours to cater for demand, but for now they are:

Monday – Friday 9am–6pm

Saturday & Sunday 7am-6pm

Golfing matters

The Men’s Championships are over the weekend of 18/19th July and I thought it appropriate to repost the local rules for competitions.

Scoring in Stroke Play (Rule 3.3b)

 · Players may enter their own scores on their scorecard

 · A marker does not need to physically sign the player’s scorecard to certify the player’s scores, nor does the player need to physically return their scorecard to the Committee provided that the committee can accept the scores in another way. However, a player’s score must still be verified by the marker through verbal or electronic means (e-mail, photograph or text for example)

Some players will be able to record their score electronically as they go round, but for people like Tim this is a step too far and he enters his scores once he’s found his glasses.

Flag sticks

Players MUST NOT deliberately touch or remove the flagstick at anytime. If a flagstick isn’t correctly centred, it may be moved into place by some means other than by touching with the hand, using for example, a putter head or elbow.

Bunkers

When a player's ball lies in a part of a bunker the player may take free relief once by placing the original ball or another ball in and playing it from this relief area:

 · Reference Point: Spot of the original ball.

 · Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: 6 inches from the reference point, but with these limits:

 · Limits on Location of Relief Area:

 o Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point, and

 o Must be in the bunker. The area MUST NOT be smoothed before placing
