‘It’s life Jim but not as we know it’ 

If someone had predicted the path that 2020 would follow, we’d have locked them in a cell and thrown away the key.

However-thanks to our supportive members, wonderful team of staff and the unacknowledged Wrag Barn support network there is much to look forward to and as always much to do.

The Captains and Tracey have put together a 2021 diary packed with matches both friendly and serious; Ian has got a shop full of the latest equipment and magic putters are on order (I wish).  Chris Manners (next generation boss) and the F&B staff have got more plans for tweaking the menu and Tim and Nobby are hatching plans for course maintenance over the winter and next summer.

I read an article about Samuel West who was asked his opinion on achievement and success.  His take was that:

‘Success is like a fashion.... it’s got a seed of failure. You’re relying on people to like what you do. The only thing you can control is your intention. You make choices, you work hard and people like it or they don’t’

He continues ‘Achievement is often collective – the best feeling as a human is to be part of something bigger than you; to look around when you’ve done something and go: how did we do that?

When you look at our community amongst the membership and all the volunteers from the different sections who, with the staff make things happen, I feel truly humbled to part of such an achievement. Thank you – no names as someone will be left out.

Now – Christmas..........

It won’t be the same as normal and there are many amongst us feeling like a skittle with the constant feeling of being knocked down and having to pick ourselves up and dust ourselves down yet again.

There are some very kind people about though:

This grandmother booked to take young Max aged 20 months to the Swindon and Cricklade railway for a Santa train ride after the Greenkeepers Texas Scramble only to discover that the tickets were booked for the week before – eye roll. The train was full and with covid we couldn’t share a carriage; such was the kindness of the volunteers that they put some chairs in the guards van with the Halloween decorations and the day was saved.

It might be Skype, Zoom or a Facetime Christmas, but the storm will pass. Thank you for being awesome.
